AELAN VAAST AND YAGO DOMÍNGUEZ CROWNED AT CABREIROÁ JUNIOR PRO FERROL 2022

This last day at the CABREIROÁ JUNIOR PRO FERROL 2022 has had its own names: Aelan Vaast and Yago Domínguez.

The women’s final matched the French surfer Aelan Vaast and the Basque Janire González Etxabarri. Both surfers completed a great event, with the Frenchwoman claiming the victory of the World Junior Tour event of the World Surf League in a spectacular final. After a final where both gave their best, the Frenchwoman won with an impressive wave of 9.33 out of 10.

Aelan Vasst commented that for her this had been a great event, with perfect conditions throughout the week that have helped her to give her best.

For her part, Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri said that “I go with the positive, I have given my best surfing, and I finish happy and motivated for the next edition”.

In third place, finished the Canary Islands Lucía Machado, and the French Juliette Lacome.

After the women’s final, it was the turn of the men’s final, which faced the Basque Yago Domínguez and French Noa Dupouy. The two competitors have stood out during these days, but finally, it was the Basque surfer who won in the last minute in a very close final and won the title by getting an impressive wave of 8.93 points out of 10.

Yago Dominguez commented that this has been “a very nice championship with spectacular waves. I had the final against Noa, who is a very tough opponent, we ended with very fair scores”.

Noa Dupouy was also grateful for the conditions they have been able to enjoy, and although he finished in second place, he is ready to return and fight for the title in the next edition.

Third place went to Basque Keoni Lasa and Frenchman Sam Piter.

But, in addition, Aelan Vaast not only won the title of champion, but she also received the Cabreiroá Best Wave award along with the Cantabrian Mario Rasines, as they got the two best waves of the event, with a 9.33 and 9.67 out of 10 respectively.

At the awards ceremony, we had the presence of Fernando Mosquera, representing Gadisa, who expressed the importance of seeing how young people practice this sport at such a high level and how they promote this lifestyle, with sport, companionship, and healthy living as the central axis, the same that they support from Gadisa.

Samuel Pantín, director of the Canido office in Ferrol, stated that, for ABANCA, sponsoring this event is something very important, especially because of the repercussion it has, including the values it defends and the public it is aimed at, which are the younger generations.

Martina Aneiros Barros, territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Ferrol, added that “we can make a fantastic balance in these days of the championship in Doniños, the conditions have accompanied, the weather has been fantastic and the mas has been optimal for the more than 200 competitors who have come from all over the world could take advantage of it”. He continued, adding, highlighting the success of the toy library, an initiative of the Plan Corresponsables of the Consellería de Emprego e Igualdade of the Xunta de Galicia, which has been complete and has allowed visiting parents, organizers, and workers of the event to leave their children to enjoy the different activities that have been developed during these days.

David Fernández, international marketing director of Cabreiroá, stated that for Cabreiroá, the surfing territory is one in which they have been working for a long time, and with which they are committed. In addition, they are committed to young people and if anything is characterized by accompanying them from their beginnings until they develop their professional careers. He also added that something to highlight is to achieve, as a brand, to transfer to the environment the thought of sustainability, showing how waste can be reconverted and given a second life, as has been the example of the trophies of this new edition.

Finally, Ángel Mato, mayor of Ferrol, expressed that “we know that when the conditions are right, Ferrol has a perfect setting for the practice of this sport, and this week has been fantastic”. I finish thanking the organization, congratulating the competitors, and hoping to see them again next year.

We also had the presence of Arán López, councilman of the Popular Group, and Julián Reina, voceiro do Grupo Municipal Socialista de Ferrol.

The physiotherapy service, the responsibility of Vithas, the official medical service of the WSL events in Spain, attended to more than fifty patients during the championship. The main pathology was lumbar and dorsal pain, a consequence of the effort in paddling. There were also frequent consultations on healthy habits and advice on how to stretch and warm-up before and after exercise.

The second edition of the CABREIROÁ JUNIOR PRO FERROL closes its doors as an event that has been much more than surfing. It has been full of parallel activities thanks to the playroom and has once again demonstrated the high level of sport of these promising young surfers.
