Carballo, A Coruña, September 28.- A challenging storm from early in the morning was the aquatic scenario in the final rounds of the 2nd edition of the Cabreiorá Junior Pro Razo 2004 where Dylan Donegan and Anette González-Etxabarri imposed their law among the waves of more than two meters with a mature surf of pure spectacle in speed and maneuvers with a choppy and constant sea.

The first final to be held was the girls’ final, with a great crowd atmosphere and local riders who came out onto the sand to follow the final tests where Annette (Zumaia, Guipúzcoa, 2007), aged 17, showed a lot of skill and won against the Lanzarote Sol Borelli (2), who also had an excellent championship, and the French Hina María Conradi (3) and Aelan Vaast (4).

Among the boys, Dylan Donegan stood out from the start, who was solid from the first day and left memorable waves. In May, he had already been proclaimed under-16 world champion in an international event held in El Salvador. Matías Canhoto was behind him, also with very powerful surfing on Razo in all his rounds, who was second; Joao Mendoza (3) and Francisco Ordonhas (4) completed the list.

Dylan competed with and against his older brother Conor (17 years old), both living in the Canary Islands and two of the young promises of Spanish surfing along with the very young Odriozola brothers, Hans and Kai. Anette is also the younger sister of Janire González-Etxabarri, one of the three Spanish surfers on the Olympic team in Paris 2024.

Among the surfers in competition, Jaime Veselko, brother of Kika Veselko, another junior world champion; Aelan Vaast, middle sister of the current Olympic champion Kauli Vaast or Manuel Fernández – the best Galician in the competition – who, together with his brother Juan, are another pair of brothers who are regular in competition. Among the local riders, the Pereiro brothers, Xoel and Martín prove that in surfing DNA and family play their part.

WSL JUNIOR EUROPEAN CROWN

The Razo test is the last of the three that the WSL, the World Surf League, has held this year in Galicia – the only stop in Spain on the circuit – after the Gadis Longboard Festival Ferrol and the Abanca Pantin Classic Galicia Pro (Valdoviño).

In addition to proclaiming the sub-20 winners, in this event the World Surf League salad bowls were awarded, which accredit the best of the season in the junior circuit. The 2024 European junior crown went to González Etxabarri and the Portuguese Francisco Ordonhas. Dyan Donegan and Hina María Conradi also qualified for the world championship, in their last year in this category.

Everyone thanked the organization for the work of the event and the support of their families to whom both Annette and Dyan dedicated the title for always accompanying them and supporting them.

Highlight the involvement of the local community and the good atmosphere experienced on Razo beach during the five days of a championship that started on the 24th with the Galician Open and on the 25th gave way to the main competition of the WSL that ended this Saturday.

More than 400 passed through the Xunta’s Corresponsible Space, completely free for children from 4 to 16 years old, and the ramp to start surfskating on the beach.
