The Costa Rican surfer Carlos Muñoz has been one of the participants in the QS/10,000 ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro, that has been taking place during the last week at the beach of Pantín (Valdoviño, Ferrolterra, province of A Coruña), included within the World Surf League circuit (WSL).
Muñoz did not hesitate to affirm that the Galician appointment is one of his “favourite competitions within the WSL calendar”. “I have been participating in Pantín since I was 19 and I have seen it grow until the current edition, which has become a 10,000 (QS). The evolution in all aspects, both sporting and everything that surrounds the championship, has been considerable. The organizers are doing a great job, ”he stressed.
Regarding his role in the sports field, Carlos Muñoz, although he was eliminated in the fourth round, acknowledged feeling “satisfied”.
“I came with the thorn of last year, in which I was second (behind Weslley Dantas), after surfing little in the final. I wanted to get as far as possible in the competition. Given that being a (QS) 10,000, the best surfers in the world have come, having passed the round, for me, it is a positive result, ”he said.
The Costa Rican stressed that he thought he would be eliminated in the third round “but two good final waves came” and he managed to pass. “In Galicia, I have gained more experience to continue growing as a rider,” he said.
Finally, concerning his expectations until the end of the season, Carlos Muñoz said he will continue to strive “to the fullest, to reach some final and to have options to qualify for the Championship Tour (CT)”.
