About 120 students from Carballo schools attend the international event with an approach to inclusive sports
Carballo (A Coruña), September 26.- Third day of competition in Razo waters in the Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo 2024, with good waves (one meter) especially during high tide and offshore wind. which allowed them to advance in rounds 96 and 64 in the men’s category until round 10, which resumes first thing tomorrow morning.
The tests began at 8:30 a.m. and the competition took place uninterruptedly until after 7:00 p.m. in the small surf town located at the foot of Razo beach.
Among the young surfers – aged 12 to 20 – who continue to advance in the JR1000 of the Junior Tour of the WSL (World Surf League) with an outstanding performance are the Donegan brothers, Dylan and Connor, settled in the Canary Islands. Also Saion Borelli, who competes with his sister Sol, both from Lanzarote.
The best wave of the day was achieved by Paco Alonzo (8.33), followed by Matias Canhoto, with 8.17, and another Portuguese compatriot, Francisco Ordonhas, with 7.83. Dylan Donegan was the best national surfer in the scores with a 7.50 in one of his waves.
The Galician Sebastián Baamonde, one of the two male winners of the Galician Open, fell in the second round.
Among the girls in competition, the Spanish Carla Morera De la Vall, Sol Borelli, Ane Loreiro Cubeiro, Saioa Ortega, Elena Berot, along with the Polynesian Maea Juventin, Lily Hirigoyen, and the Italian Marta Begalli, passed their rounds.
The competition resumes on Friday morning while the final rounds (quarters, semis and finals) will be played on Saturday, September 27.
SCHOOL VISITS AND INCLUSIVE SURFING
More than 120 schoolchildren from two educational centers in Carballo will spend days very different from classroom day with a brief insight into the world of surfing and water sports that allow them to discover the potential of their coast, get to know its beaches and interact with participants of a dozen nationalities, from Japan to the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany or Belgium.
On Thursday morning, the first shift was opened by a group of Preschool and Primary students (CEIP) from Nétoma Razo in Carballo, with fifty schoolchildren who passed through the Co-Responsible Spaces – promoted by the General Directorate of Promotion of Equality of the Xunta- and the skate park during their visit to the Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo 2024.
In the afternoon, in an immersive experience: surfing baptism for 15 children from the Un Paso Mais association, a sports and cultural association for children with ASD or different disorders or disabilities that advocate inclusive and adapted sport. Thank the entity for its involvement since the 15 places available for the baptisms were sold out in just 3 hours.
The little ones, some of them very young, tried to put on their wetsuits and come into contact with the sea, sharing space with the young surfers in competition. This Friday, the Cabreiorá Junior Pro Razo awaits the visit of another large group of schoolchildren, -around 60-, this time, from the CPR Artai school, promoting the relationship between the event and the local community that hosts it.
