From Wednesday to Saturday 27, the Razo Beach (Carballo) will host 150 of the best under-20 surfers in Europe competing for the European title
Razo, Carballo, September 24.— This afternoon the Edommo Junior Pro Razo, presented by Espazo Nature, an international WSL (World Surf League) event, was officially launched. It will take place from this Wednesday the 24th until Saturday the 27th in the waves of Razo Beach, in Carballo, which will become the European surf capital over the coming days.
From this WSL event, a JQS 1000 in both divisions (men’s and women’s), the next under-20 European junior champion will emerge from among the more than 150 surfers registered. The first heats began today at 9:30 a.m.
The institutional presentation was held at Espazo Nature, an eco-sustainable hospitality complex, with the attendance of Carballo’s mayor Evencio Ferrero, the vice president of A Coruña Provincial Council Xosé Regueira; Carmen Pita and Roberto García from Galicia Tourism and Sport of the Xunta, along with Yago Barreto, representative of Classis Surf Pro, the organizing body.
“We have some beautiful days ahead with great waves for an event that brings together many public and private efforts to push this competition forward, putting Razo and the coast of A Coruña on the world stage as a WSL Destination and one of the best places in the world for surfing,” said Barreto.
For his part, Regueira highlighted Onda Bocata, which will unfold over the weekend as a culinary attraction to complement the event, offering delicious bites that “are meals between bread.” The mayor, as host, encouraged people of all ages to come to the small surf village set up by Razo Beach as “a magnificent opportunity to enjoy an extraordinary natural space with a spectacular show from young surfers on their boards.”
In addition to the institutional representatives, the private sponsors were also present: Francisco López Usina, CEO of Edommo Ingeniería, the company giving its name to this third edition of the Junior Pro Razo; Laura Vázquez, co-founder and Head of Marketing of Espazo Nature, the official accommodation; Lucía Santos, CSR coordinator of Gadisa; Julio Mouriño of Intermax Technologies; Emma Portal of Ópticas Noroeste; and Robin Mueller of the Swiss company Ventores, making their first appearance in Galicia for this event.
On the sporting side, Galician surfer Sebas Baamonte remains in competition, while Alejo Ferreiro has been eliminated, with Vigo’s Teo García, Daniela Alonso and Cristina De Llano yet to compete later today. In the men’s division, the Round of 96 was completed today, while the women advanced to the Round of 48.
CAFÉS LÚA, FAMILY-FRIENDLY SPACES, SKATE & SURF
This edition will also feature Cafés Lúa, a local company with more than 36 years of experience dedicated to high-quality, artisanal, and sustainable coffee. They will deploy their coffee truck with a special menu of surf-inspired drinks such as Pantín (caramelized coconut evoking the sand) and Razo (pistachio syrup with crunchy bits representing the dunes).
Among the new features this year is a local minimarket promoting emerging businesses from the area, including Cousas de Razo and Kaviar. Lastly, as in every edition, there will be the Espazo Corresponsables, a free childcare and family resource service available during the four days of the event (September 24–27) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., for children aged 4 to 16. The program also includes guided activities for local schools and environmental initiatives around the beach. On Thursday, 30 schoolchildren from nearby towns will attend, and on Friday the group will expand to 60 students.
The Edommo Junior Pro Razo, presented by Espazo Nature is made possible thanks to the joint support of public administrations — Xunta, A Coruña Provincial Council, and Carballo City Council — together with private sponsors: Edommo (Engineering and Domestic Self-Sufficiency, offering energy consulting and aerothermal solutions), Espazo Nature, Jael Jewelry, Gadis, Ventores, Caetano Fórmula Renault, Intermax, and Surflogic. The event reinforces Carballo/Razo as the capital of junior surfing and a world showcase for the Costa das Ondas, recognized as Spain’s first World Surfing Reserve.
