RULES OF THE ORGANIZATION AND CELEBRATION OF THE

“ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO”

WORLD SURFING CHALLENGE 2020

CHAPTER I: “ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO” WORLD SURFING CHALLENGE 2020 AND THE PARTICIPANTS
Article 1.

 

  1. “ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO” WORLD SURFING CHALLENGE It is a surf contest in the male and female category to be held on the following dates and locations:
  • Location: Pantín Beach, Concello de Valdoviño, A Coruña Province.
  • Date: August 18th to 23rd, 2020.

2. To participate it will be essential to be in possession of the federative license of the FES or any other autonomous federation integrated in the Spanish Surfing Federation (FES) or of the FES itself, or being a member of the WSL (World Surf League).

3. All participants must present their DNI / PASSPORT, their Bank information for the payment of Prize Money and their federation card or prove their membership of the WSL at the Check-in office in on site.

4. All participants must register through the website classicsurfpro.com up to a maximum of 128 men and 64 women, registration will cost 50€,, except for Wildcards that will be individually designated and notified by the Organization.

5. There will be a list of alternates to fill possible gaps, cancellations, or “no shows” in each category.

6. The registration period will start on July 1st, 2020 and the registration period will last until August 1st, 2020 (both included), once this period has ended, an alternative period of 10 additional days will be opened, called “LATE ENTRIES”, all the participants that make their registration during that period will have lost the consideration of their ranking for the preparation of the“SEEDING”of the competition and their place will remain in a“WAITLISTED”status until the confirmation of that fact by of the organization.

  • Registration starts: July 1st, 2020.
  • Registration closes: August 1st, 2020.
  • Start “LATE ENTRIES”: August 2nd, 2020.
  • Close “LATE ENTRIES”: August 11th, 2020.

7. For the elaboration of the competition formats, the organization will prepare the “SEEDING” of the event attending to the following aspects in order of priority:

  • 1º: RANKING WORLD SURF LEAGUE.
  • 2º: RANKING SUPERLIGA SIROKO.
  • 3º: RANKING SPANISH SURF FEDERATION.

8. The cancellation of the registration of a participant of any of the categories must be done with prior notification and justification to the organization, with a minimum of 10 days before the start date of each test, otherwise,, the participant will lose their right to participate in the following tests and to refund the registration fee.

9. In the event that the organization must cancel any of the tests for any reason, 50% of the registration fee will be refunded.

10. They will have an exclusive area for Riders that they can access with one (1) guest after collecting their credentials at the Check-IN office.

 

CHAPTER II: OF THE AGENTS INVOLVED.
SECTION I OF THE PROMOTER
Article 3
  1. The promoter is the natural or legal person who, with his own or other people’s resources, organizes a Championship.

  2. The promoter’s obligations are:
  • To obtain the pertinent authorizations for the celebration of the Championship.
  • To watch over the normal development of the Championship.
  • The acquisition of the corresponding prizes in cash, in material and trophies.
  • Coordinate with the Contest Director and Head Judge for the correct development of the competition.
  • The remuneration of the people who work in the Championship.
  • Provide food, drinks and, where appropriate, accommodation, to the people who work in the Championship.
  • The assembly of the necessary infrastructure for the development of the championship.
  • The safety of the championship, both in the water (face-to-face type) and material.
  • The organization, where appropriate, of parallel events such as concerts, exhibition of other sports, parties, etc.
  • The promotion of the event.

 

SECTION II OF THE SPEAKER
Article 4.
  1. The obligations of the commentator:
  • Inform the competitors at all times about the remaining time, scoring and changes in the situation.
  • Inform competitors and the audience about the development of the Championship.
  • Heed the instructions and requests of the judges.
  • Collaborate with event promoters by advertising sponsors, instructions, coordinating the award ceremony, etc.

 

SECTION III OF THE BEACH JUDGE “BEACH MARSHALL”.  
Article 5.
  1. The functions of the beach marshall are:
  • Guard the jerseys of the Championship.
  • Deliver the jerseys to the competitors.
  • Ensure the return of the jerseys by the competitors once the heat is finished.
  • Time control of each heat
  • Control of the signaling and priority panels according to the situation of the heats.
  • Inform athletes who need it of the heat conditions, time, number of waves, competition area, entry point according to the currents, paddling times to the peak, etc.

SECTION IV OF THE JUDGES.
Article 6.
  1. The official contest will necessarily have judges certified by the FES and / or WSL validated.

  2. The panel of judges responsible for each contest must respond to the following table:
Referee Element:

1 Contest Director.
1 Head Judge.
5 Scoring Judges.
1 Priority Judge.
3 Spotters.
1 Speaker.

 

Article 7.
  1. The functions of the judges are:
  • Scoring objectively, the different maneuvers performed by the competitors.
  • Follow the instructions of the Head.
  • Comply with the schedules of the Championship and with the shifts designated by the Head Judge.
  • Comply with the regulations of the WSL Judges, Head Judge and Contest Director.
  1. The judges will analyze the following elements when scoring the waves:
  • Commitment and degree of difficulty.
  • Innovative and progressive maneuvers.
  • Combination of major maneuvers.
  • Variety of maneuvers.
  • Speed, power and flow.
  1. Evaluation scale:
  1. – [0.0 – 1.9: Poor]
  2. – [2.0 – 3.9: Fair]
  3. – [4.0 – 5.9: Average]
  4. – [6.0 – 7.9: Good]
  5. – [8.0 – 10.0: Excellent]

SECTION V OF THE HEAD OF JUDGES
Article 8.
  1. The Head of Judges is the maximum responsible for the scoring criteria followed in the Championship.

  2. Before the start of the Championship, he can request to hold a meeting with the competitors and the contest director to expose the scoring criteria depending on the sea conditions. This meeting may be held on the following days of competition in the event that conditions change.

  3. The Head Judge will perform the following functions:

  • Establish the scoring criteria to follow.
  • Give instructions and directions to the Judges.
  • Organize shifts.
  • While the heats are being developed, the Chief Judge will scrutinize the score sheets to ensure that an uniform level is maintained between one heat and the next and the use of all the available scoring scale by the judges.
  • The interference rules will be applied perfectly and drastically.
  • Likewise ,he must inform the judges in the panel if he detects that its means or procedures are not compatible with those of the rest of the panel.

SECTION VI OF THE DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION.
Article 10.
  1. Verification of registrations.
  2. Verification of athletes’ licenses and arbitration element.
  3. Seeding of the contest.
  4. Conditions of the competition.
  5. Time of the heats.
  6. Competition area.
  7. Priority rule.
  8. Schedule of the competition.
  9. Competition Regulations.
  10. Attention to claims.
  11. Coordination with organizer and Head Judge.
  12. Control of the competition committee (organizer, Head Judge and Competition Manager).
  13. Ranking of the event.
  14. Report on the event.
  15. Verification of the tabulation system (Surfmanager / Refresh / Wavescores) software and hardware.
  16. Assist the media.
  17. Decide, where appropriate, the suspension of the Championship.

CHAPTER III: THE PRIZE MONEY.
Article 11.
  1. Prize money breakdown for both categories, male and female:
MEN

1st: $6.000,00
2nd: $3.000,00
Equal 3rd x2: $1.000,00
Equal 5th x4: $500,00
Equal 9th x4: $300,00
Equal 13th x4: $200,00

WOMEN

1st: $6.000,00
2nd: $3.000,00
Equal 3rd x2: $1.000,00
Equal 5th x4: $500,00
Equal 9th x4: $300,00
Equal 13th x4: $200,00

Local withholding taxes: 24%

For all prize money payments, your ID and bank details will be required.

Please send a copy of your ID and your bank details to Leo Galeiras prior to the event.

DON´T LEAVE THE EVENT SITE WITHOUT HAVING SIGNED YOUR PRIZE MONEY RECEIPT.
*All payments will be made by bank transfer for which participants must provide their FULL BANK DETAILS in the moment of registration or when collecting their prize money document on site.

 

CHAPTER IV: THE COMPETITION.
Article 13.
  1. There will be no preference of waves or tides in order to launch the competition, neither for men´s nor for women´s.

  2. Heats will be 20 minutes long except for modifications made by the organization , head Judge or Contest Director.

  3. There will be a priority law on the heats.

Priority:

The priority surfer has an unconditional right of way to catch any wave he chooses.

Other surfers in the heat can paddle and catch the same wave, but only if they do not hinder the scoring potential of a priority surfer.

A surfer loses priority once he catches or paddles a wave.

Interference. 

A surfer who hinders the scoring potential of a surfer with priority over them will receive an interference penalty.

In most situations, this means that your heat score will be calculated using only your best scoring wave.

  • Behaviour rules and terms of entry will be specified in each area of ​​the event.

  • For the rest of the competition rules, the World Surf League rules will be taken as a reference.
