Survival Surfing Among Small Waves on the Second Day of the Edommo Junior

A transitional day waiting for better sea conditions, with Dylan Donnegan —one of the favorites— advancing, and Galician surfer Sebas Baamonde being eliminated in the penultimate heat of the day.

Razo, Carballo, September 25. – The second day of the WSL (World Surf League) international competition at the Edommo Junior Pro Razo, presented by Espazo Nature (September 24–27), saw heats concentrated in the final hour of daylight, taking advantage of the last light of the day after several delays to the start of the competition while waiting for improved sea conditions.

In the boys’ rounds (64), today saw the advancement of Dylan Donnegan —one of the main contenders for the 2025 WSL European title— and his brother Connor Donnegan, along with Iñigo Madina, Lukas Skinner, Kilian Rosskopf, Eder Fuentes, Stefano Mandozzi, Axel Dominguez, Joshua Karbus, Alejo Valido, Pierre Lamothe, Mário Leopoldo, and Álvaro Casanova. Galician surfer Sebastián Baamonde was eliminated in the penultimate heat of the day, as the sun set over Razo.

In the girls’ division, the small surf conditions made it impossible to compete today. Tomorrow, the action will resume from the very early hours (8 a.m.) with surfers such as Oihane Goñi, Nora Álvarez, Isabella O’reilly, Chiara Cuppone, Lauren Sandland, Martina Escobar, Clara Hirigoyen, Teresa Pereira, Julia Heijmans, and Enara Palacios, among others.

CO-RESPONSIBILITY: STUDENTS FROM NÉTOMA-RAZO

Today, more than thirty students aged 11 to 13 from 5th and 6th grade at CEIP Plurilingüe de Nétoma-Razo visited the small surf village of Razo. In addition to touring the site and getting close to the areas where international riders compete, they had the chance to take part in sustainable workshops run by the “Espazos Corresponsables” program of the Xunta’s Department of Equality —a free resource promoting shared responsibility among young people at all WSL events in Galicia— and to try their luck on the skate ramp.

The school’s administration expressed its gratitude for the invitation once again, allowing students to experience a top-level international surf championship held right next to their homes and school. The event highlights the value of their natural surroundings and introduces them to a water sport in contact with nature, for which Galicia —and particularly the A Coruña coast— offers unrivaled conditions.

On Friday, September 26, two more groups from nearby schools are scheduled to visit the Edommo Junior Pro Razo, by Espazo Nature.
