TERESA BONVALOT AND ADUR AMATRIAIN CROWNED AT THE 35 ANNIVERSARY OF ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO

The 35th anniversary of the ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO has proclaimed today its champions, who are crowned for the second time in Pantín: Teresa Bonvalot and Adur Amatriain
 
This last day of competition hosted the finals in both categories, starting with the men. In this one, the Basque Adur Amatriain and the Spanish Kai Odriozola faced each other.
 
Adur Amatriain returned to Pantín as the champion of the last edition, determined to defend his title in this 35th anniversary, and he has achieved it. In a very tight final, he overtook with a total of 11.67 points against the 11.54 of Kai Odriozola. “Until the time was up, I wasn’t sure if I would win. It’s hard to see which waves will be good, so I tried to catch as many as I could looking for the ones that would give me the most potential,” said Amatriain.
 
The women’s final was fought between the Portuguese Teresa Bonvalot and the Breton Alys Barton. Both surfers gave their best, but it was the Portuguese, who won the event in 2020, who won with two incredible waves of 8.33 and 7.43 points out of 10 and took the victory.
 
“I’m doing what I love the most, which is competing, and doing it in Pantín is something special. My first big win in an international event was here, and this year I was able to repeat it. Alys is a very strong competitor, the series was tough, but I am very happy with my result,” said the winner.
 
Teresa Bonvalot not only won the title of the champion but also obtained the CABREIROÁ BEST WAVE for the best wave of the event in the women’s category, with 8.33 points out of 10. In the men’s category, the prize went to Frenchman Tiago Carrique, who obtained a wave of 9 points out of 10.
 
The awards ceremony was attended by Mr. Diego Calvo Pouso, Second Vice President and Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Sports of the Xunta de Galicia. “From the Xunta de Galicia we are delighted to support one more year of this new edition of the Pantín Classic. It is not easy to find an event, anywhere in the world that exceeds 35 uninterrupted years”.
 
Also present, Mr. Óscar López, Ferrol area director of Abanca. He expressed how “something as simple, but as significant as naming the event is a sign of our involvement and commitment to this event”.
 
Mr. Alberto González, mayor of Valdoviño, emphasized that there is never a similar ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO, and at the same time he emphasized that “it is a good decision to support this championship and to bet that surfing is a sport in which the society is identified”.
 
The 35th anniversary of the ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO closes its doors consolidating itself as a reference in sport, sustainability, tourism, and leisure. For 35 uninterrupted years, Pantín beach has hosted the best surfers in the world and now, just wait for the years to come.
