THE ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO AND THE WSL WORLD SURFING LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD IN GALICIA IN 2025 ARE ALREADY SCHEDULED.

The events were presented this Wednesday, 22 January, at the Fitur stand in Madrid under the title ‘Galicia, WSL destination’.
Madrid, January 22nd – On the afternoon of Fitur 2025, the official presentation of the four championships of the WSL world surf league to be held throughout this year in Galicia took place. Classic Surf Pro, the organiser of these events, demonstrates a strong commitment to Galicia, increasing each year both the number and the relevance of the events held in the region, making it the territory with the most WSL circuit competitions in the world.

In this edition, a total of four championships have been presented and their dates have already been revealed, the first to open the season will be the ‘SURF FESTIVAL FERROL’. From the 25th to the 29th of June, in the departmental city we will be able to enjoy two championships held in parallel, one in the most classic form of surfing, the Longboard, and the other for the young promises of this sport, the Junior.

Next on the agenda is already a historic event not only for fans of this sport, but also for visitors in general: the ‘ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO’. From 23 to 31 August, the 38th edition of this championship, which is already a world reference, will be held. As has become traditional, this event transcends the merely sporting aspect, including numerous activities in its programme that run in parallel and completely free of charge (gastronomy, environment, musical performances…), which is an additional attraction for its almost 100,000 visitors per edition.
And in this trio of idyllic locations, we could not miss the beach of Razo (Carballo), which offers optimal conditions for surfing all year round thanks to the consistency of its waves. This beach will host the last event of the calendar, the ‘CABREIROA JUNIOR PRO RAZO’, from the 24th to the 27th of September.

The official presentation ceremony began with a speech by the organisers, represented by Yago Barreto, with the participation of Sergio Martínez (representing ABANCA) and the world champion in adapted surfing, Sarah Almagro. The latter highlighted the commitment of the organisation to achieve fully inclusive championships, being a benchmark in this aspect, as well as thanked the public and private aid that allows athletes to overcome all barriers.
Political representatives also attended, such as Jose Manuel Rey Varela, mayor of Ferrol, who stressed that the sport of surfing in general, and these championships in particular, are a tourist showcase for the region of Ferrolterra that shows its wonderful sandy beaches.

Alberto González, Mayor of Valdoviño, underlined the importance of reaching the 38th edition of the ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO, achieving a full integration between the local population and the huge number of visitors who come to watch the championship on these dates, as well as the boost that the increase in the number of races held in the region means for the region.

Xosé Regueira, vice-president of the Deputation of A Coruña, has expressed the satisfaction of putting the international focus on the coast of the province, a great opportunity to diversify the activity and to deseasonalise it, as the usual surfers practice it every day.

For his part, Xosé Manuel Merelles, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration to hold sporting events of this magnitude, all of them on Galician soil, a territory that has ideal conditions for this sport in a natural way.
