Madrid, 21 January. On this afternoon at Fitur 2026, the official presentation of the WSL world surfing league championships to be held throughout this year in Galicia took place. The organisation of these events demonstrates a strong commitment to Galicia, consolidating the competitions held in the region, which is the territory with the most concentrated competitions on the WSL circuit in the world.
In this edition, a total of four championships were presented, the dates of which have already been announced.
The first to kick off the season will be the ‘GADIS SURF FESTIVAL FERROL’. From 24 to 28 June, in the provincial capital, we will be able to enjoy two championships held in parallel, one in the most classic form of surfing, Longboard, and the other in the SUB-21 (shortboard) category. In addition to the sporting aspect, there will also be a festival atmosphere, with music playing a major role in this new edition.
Next on the agenda is an event that is already historic, not only for fans of this sport, but also for visitors in general: the ‘ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO’. From 22 to 30 August, the 39th edition of this championship, which is already a global benchmark, will be held. As is now traditional, this event transcends the merely sporting, including numerous activities in its programme that take place in parallel and are completely free of charge (gastronomy, environment, musical performances, etc.), which is another attraction for its 100,000 visitors per edition.
And in this trio of idyllic locations, Razo beach (Carballo) could not be left out, offering optimal conditions for surfing all year round thanks to its consistent waves. This beach will host the last event on the calendar, the ‘EDOMMO JUNIOR PRO RAZO’, from 15 to 18 October. This marks a major leap in quality as it moves up to the Qualifying Series (QS) category of the World Surf League circuit.
The official presentation ceremony began with a speech by the organisation, with Yago Barreto representing Classic Surf Pro, revealing the dates of the new editions.
Political representatives also attended, such as José Manuel Rey Varela, mayor of Ferrol, who highlighted that surfing in general, and these championships in particular, are a great tourist attraction for the Ferrolterra region, showcasing its wonderful beaches.
For his part, Alberto González, mayor of Valdoviño, stressed the importance of reaching the 39th edition of the ABANCA PANTIN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO, achieving full integration between the local population and the huge number of visitors who travel to the area at this time of year to watch the championship, as well as the boost that the increase in events held in the region represents for the area.
Xosé Regueira, vice-president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, expressed his satisfaction at the international spotlight being placed on the province’s coastline, which is a great opportunity to diversify and deseasonalise activity, as surfing is usually practised every day. He also highlighted the importance of adding the new WSL-QS event in Carballo to the EDOMMO PRO RAZO, completing this perfect triangulation, the Galician triple crown.
For her part, Martina Aneiros, representing the Regional Government of Galicia, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in order to hold sporting events of this magnitude, all of them on Galician soil, a territory that naturally possesses ideal conditions for this sport.
