THE GALICIANS DANIELA ALONSO, MANUEL FERNÁNDEZ, LUCÍA MARTÍNEZ, AND SEBAS BAAMONDE WIN THE OPEN GALEGO AND EARN DIRECT ENTRY TO THE CABREIROÁ JUNIOR PRO RAZO

This Wednesday, the 25th, the main competition to crown the under-20 European champion of the World Surf League kicked off.

Carballo (A Coruña), September 25th. – The Open Galego of the Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo now has its first champions of 2024 after battling the waves to win one of the four wildcards from the organization, securing direct entry to the main competition where the best young surfers from Galicia will face off against the top surfers from the European international circuit.

Manuel Fernández and Sebastián Baamonde, both surfers from A Coruña, in the men’s category, and Daniela Alonso (Vigo) and Lucía Martínez Bermúdez (Viveiro) in the women’s category, emerged victorious at the Open Galego of the Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo, along with the Galician Surf Federation, providing the opportunity for the future of Galician surfing to compete alongside the world’s best.

Today at 14:00, the main competition of the World Surf League began under challenging weather conditions, with the Galician coast under an orange alert due to strong gusts of wind but limited waves for the qualifying rounds, which were delayed while awaiting better tidal conditions.

The second edition of the Cabreiroá Junior Pro Razo will take place in the waters of Razo until September 28th, when the final heats will be held to crown the champions of the competition, as well as the champions of the Europe-Middle East circuit of the WSL (World Surf League), the Professional Surfing League.

This is the final sporting event of the WSL (World Surf League) closing out the summer of 2024 in A Coruña, with the participation of 187 surfers – 131 men and 56 women – under-20 from the continental circuit.

Let’s also remind you that the small surf town of Razo features a “Corresponsables Space” run by the Directorate General for the Promotion of Equality of the Xunta, open every day of the competition as a resource for family reconciliation, offering care for children aged 4 to 16 from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 until the event concludes. Additionally, there will be food trucks and a small consumption area.
