The Longboard’s elite date in the semifinals of the ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro

  • Frenchman Edouard Delpero was the protagonist in the quarter-finals, getting the ‘Best Wave of the Competition’, with a score of 8.50.
  • The  semifinal crosses in the men’s category are: Edouard Delpero – Justin Quintal (United States) y Kai Sallas (Hawaii) – Taka Inoue (Japan).
  • In the female category, the pairings are: Chloe Calmon (Brazil) – Justine Depont (France) y Rachael Tilly (United States) – Honolua Blomfield (Hawaii). 
  • The competition begins at 1:00 p.m., while the finals will be approximately played between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The frenchman Edouard Delpero offered his best surfing, achieving the ‘Best Wave of the Day’ in the men’s category, and of the entire competition, with a 8.50, in the first quarter-final test that measured the Australian Harrison Roach. The appointment is taking place at the beach of Pantín (Valdoviño, Ferrolterra, province of A Coruña)  and is included in the World Longboard Championship Tour – WLC/6.000. 

Delpero, current European champion of the specialty of Longboard and ninth ranked in the world, had a great performance, compared to a Roach who came to the Galician championship as a clear favorite to win. In addition, the Frenchman achieved the ‘Best Accumulated Result of the Day’, with a total of 16.17 points.

In the second test of the round, a beautiful confrontation was also seen between the leader of the competition, Justin Quintal (United States) and the Hawaiian Kaniela Stewart, that ended with the victory of the first (15.00-12.60). after tracing an adverse result during the start of the ‘heat’. 

The good trajectory of the Brazilian Jefson Silva was cut off, after the Hawaiian Kai Sallas (ninth in the World Cup classification) beat him in the third test (13.00-11.40). 

Finally, the Japanese Taka Inoue continues in the competition and gets into the fight to enter the final, winning in his duel against the Australian Jack Entwistle (10.53-9.53 points). 

In the women’s section there have been no big surprises. The first three classified in the World Cup classification, in this order, Chloe Calmon (Brazil); Honolua Blomfield (Hawaii) and Rachael Tilly (United States) are in the semifinal round, after eliminating Zoe Grospiron (France); Lindsay Steinriede (United States) and Avalon Gall (United States), respectively. 

The fourth competitor who will fight to get into the final is Justine Dupont (France), who eliminated the Australian Emily Lethbridge in the test.

After these results, the semifinal matches measure Chloe Calmon against Justine Dupont and Honolua Blomfield against Rachael Tilly. 

The ‘Best wave of the day’ in the women’s category, was won by Avalon Gall, with a score of 8.17; while the ‘Best accumulated result of the day’ went to Justine Dupont, with 14.33 points.

The day of this Saturday (August 31)

The semifinals start at 1:00 p.m., so the finals will be played between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. approximately. 

The forecast conditions are good, so there are guarantees that a great show can be witnessed for the final rounds.

Cabreiroá Eco-Logic

As part of the activities present this year at the ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro, the Cabreiroá water brand along with Good Karma Projects have deployed a Cabreiroá Eco-Logic stand where different activities, such as workshops and talks, will be offered to train and wake up, both in visitors, surfers and longboarders, a more sustainable mentality. 

Attendees and athletes can participate in these activities from this week until Sunday, September 1. They are open to the public and include activities ranging from ‘Beach cleaning!’, Such as ‘Plastic recycling workshop’ or ‘How to make your own natural wax’. 

Round tables will also be held, raising awareness of environmental protection, and films and documentaries related to ecology.
