The top surfing event in Spain, the ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO 2022, will host its 35th anniversary this year, gathering, once again, the world’s leading surfers on the Galician coast.
The launching of its official poster previews the great variety of innovations that will take place in this new edition in which the event is placed as an absolute must-attend, both nationally and internationally.
On July 9, 10 and 11 the battle will begin at Pantín Beach, Valdoviño, with the Open Gallego. The first and second classified in male and female categories will get the yearned Wildcards, which will unlock the doors to be able to compete in the main event.
Also, from 9 to 11, will take place the ABANCA ADAPTIVE SURFING, which grows in its third edition with almost 30 confirmed athletes from all over the world. With the support of the Consellería de Política Social e Xuventude, through the Dirección Xeral de Maiores e Persoas con Discapacidade, these athletes will be once again an example of effort, self-improvement, and resolution.
The 35th edition of the ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO 2021, which is part of the world circuit of the World Surf League (WSL), will kick off on the 12th.
The director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro, stressed that “a sporting competition like this is not just a sport, it is not just active tourism, it is much more. This international event brings together these days in Galicia the best professional surfers that come from many parts of the world to meet on the beach of Pantín, making Valdoviño the focus of all eyes during the championship. This makes Pantín an great scenario for the international promotion of our territory and our endogenous resources: the beaches, of course, but also the landscapes, the culture, the maritime heritage and, above all, a sustainable and quality destination”.
The president of the Diputación da Coruña, Valentín González Formoso, highlighted the long history of collaboration of the provincial institution with a sporting event “that today is a world reference in the world of surfing” and that, for 35 years, has turned Pantín beach (Valdoviño) into the world capital of this sport every summer, attracting the best surfers and thousands of fans. “The Pantín Classic began in a very modest way in an enclave that has optimal natural conditions for surfing. Today it is one of the major events of this sport at European and world level, which is a source of pride for the whole province,” said the president.
The mayor of Valdoviño, Alberto González, ranked the ABANCA PANTÍN CLASSIC GALICIA PRO 2022 as the main sporting ambassador of the beaches of the municipality and, by extension, of the town itself on the international arena, and thanked the work done throughout the year by the organization to enjoy a top-level event, as well as the collaboration of neighbors in its development.
