ANNETTE GONZALEZ-ETXABARRI AND SAM PITTER ARE PROCLAIMED EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS IN RAZO

The new Basque surfer, who wants to win against Torche (France), is promoted in her second round and proclaimed the European Junior Championship 2023

The Frenchman Sam Pitter, who was among the favorites, lived up to his expectations and crowned himself in the waters of Carballo as the best under 21 surfer.

Razo (Carballo), September 23.- Annette González-Extbarri (Zumaia, ) and the French boy Sam Piter are the new champions of European Junior WSL 2023. A new Basque surfer (Zumaia, Gipúzpoa, 2007) and the French boy chained her second consecutive world victory after winning last Sunday at Torche (second test of the WSL on the continental circuit) and they triumphed again in Razo waters, repeating both podiums and winning the cup that crowns them as the new junior surfers in Europe.

Annette surpassed her heat in first position and the points accumulated in the waves automatically gave her victory and the crown of Europe in the World Surf League.

First and foremost, Janire, proclaimed the championship in the latest edition of the Abanca Pantin Classic Galicia Prol on September 3 on the beach of Valdoviño (A Coruña) and won the Gadis Junior Prol of 2021 held in Doniños (Ferrol).

The two will face each other tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the first women’s round. The other three races are completed by Tahitian Aelan Vaast, French aces Conradi, Milhau, Schorsch and Portuguese duos: Dias and Máximo.

An hour later, seven, 20-year-old Frenchman Sam Pitter, proclaimed champion to first pass a heart-stopping heat in the final minute and placed among the four semi-finalists in the men’s category.

It was a great day on Razo beach in sun, wind and waves after a break in the morning due to the very strong sea that was rising off the coast of Carballo. The competition advanced this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to complete round 16 (quarterfinals), with a marathon of waves on Razo Beach that flowed one after another in a surf festival that attracted hundreds of people. The slopes of Razo Beach are 5,5 kilometer long.

GRAND FINAL AND FREE SURF BAPTISMS ON SUNDAY THE 24TH IN RAZO

The semifinals and the grand final for girls and boys for the WSL Junior European title will be held this Sunday the 24th with the first heats starting at 8:00 a.m. and the final around noon (12:00 p.m.).

Next, (14:15) – if the sea conditions allow the competition to proceed at the scheduled time – the awards ceremony will take place with the presence of the mayor of Carballo, Evencio Ferrero and the vice president of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, Xosé Regueira, together with the director of the event, Yago Barreto.

At noon (12:00) the last of the free surfing baptisms is also planned for all those who want to start, try or repeat. They must register in the event’s toy library until the places are filled in order of registration. The toy library is part of the Co-Responsible Space of the Department of Equality of the Xunta de Galicia and is open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to promote the reconciliation of workers, surfers and the public at the event.
