Estrella Galicia avoids the use of plastic, with the biodegradable glasses for the ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro

Estrella Galicia, sponsor of the ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro, has launched a line of biodegradable glasses, in line with the environmental protection line and avoiding the use of plastic, which surrounds the event.

The glass, which can be found in all points of food and drink that are in the central square of the facility, are biodegradable at least 90%, that is, the ability of the compostable material to become CO2, water and biomass under the action of microorganism. A biodegradation level of at least 90% must be achieved within 6 months.

In addition, they have more than 90% fragmentation, which refers to the ease of decomposition. That is, fragmentation and loss of visibility of the material in the final compost so that it cannot be distinguished from the compost. More than 90% by weight of the material tested must be reduced in fragments of less than 2 millimetres within 3 months.

The glasses have low levels of heavy metals and no negative effects on the final composting process. The measurements take place both in the initial material (which has to show heavy metal levels below the prudential levels indicated in the standard), as well as through germination and plant growth tests in the final compost, to detect possible eco-toxic effects.
