Cabreiroá Pro Las Américas, first national event of the season.

We are facing the first national event of the season, the Cabreiroá Pro Las Americas which is closely followed by the Pro Zarautz QS/1,500, taking place during april. And closing the year, the Challenger Series QS/10,000 that projects riders from the QS to the CT. This year it will be held on the beach of Pantín during August.

But let’s focus on what’s coming in less than a week. It is the first QS 1,500 of the European World Surf League Tour held in Spanish waters. And what better place for a winter event than the Canary Islands, the European Hawaii. Palm trees, up to 25 degrees Celsius, board shorts, flip flops and this wave factory that is Las Américas beach.

Some 200 surfers,  international, local and national men and women, will gather between February 3rd and 9th at Las Américas beach in Arona.

We imagine that Timothée Bisso will try to revalidate his well-deserved title. But last year the big surprise was given by local surfer Daniela Boldini, who entered the championship for winning a wild card  and ended up winning the title after batling hard in the final heat against one of the great national surfers, Leticia Canales. This other surfer should also be followed very closely this 2020. In 2017 she was injured, falling out of the Top50 QS but after much sacrifice and preparation, last year he made an amazing season going on to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The entry list just closed and most of the members which make up the National Spanish Olympic team have hesitated to miss the appointment: Gony Zubizarreta, Vicente Romero, Ariane Ochoa, Nadia Erostarbe and the aforementioned Leticia Canales.

Also note the participation of the canary surfer Jonathan González who has registered at the last minute.

This 2020 it’s a historical year. It will be the first year in which surfing is included in the Olympics. As in all the years of Olympics, it’s a very exicting, the level is very high, the nerves are in full bloom!

Most competitors have been heating up engines in both QS’s that opened this year 2020, the Corona Open of China held in Riyue Bay and the Pro Taghauyout Bay Anchor Point held in Morocco. We will have the opportunity to see this athletes reaching their full potential in Tenerife.

The event begins to thrive already on the weekend of February 1st and 2nd with a contest of the  Canarian Surf Federation circuit held on the same beach and under the same facilities. It’s going to be very exciting too because four Wildcards are at stake for Cabreiroá Pro Las Américas, two per category.

The weekend will be followed by an incredible full week of high level of surfing accompanied by a festival that includes surf market, surf film screenings and good music.
