- The WSL contest will be one of the only two Double (men and women´s) QS/10.000 in the world´s tour calendar, taking place between August 28th and September 7th at Praia Pantin.

Pantín Classic presents ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro. The contest will take place at Pantín´s Beach in A Coruña (Galicia), from August 28th until September the 7th. It will take place at Praia de Pantín having ABANCA as main sponsor.
This year the surf event holds a Double QS/10.000 and a Longboard CT. Truthful to the organization parity filosofy, Men and Women will be competing at the same level. This fact turns the event into the only one of its kind in Europe. Worldwide, it could be compared to California´s WSL event.
Nevertheless, The Longboard Classic Galicia will be the third of the triple WLC/6.000, being the only one that takes place in Europe; and one of the four that are part of the World Surf Calendar: Noosa (Australia); Nueva York; Taiwan and Galicia.
Organizers have estimated that around 350 athletes from 31 nationalities will meet in Galicia, as well as thousands of spectators. Fans will have the opportunity of enjoying world´s best surfing during this eleven days in one of the most relevant sport events celebrated in Galicia.
Another big novelty from this edition is the agreement for next three years with main sponsor, ABANCA. Following latest edition program, the bank will move one of its office to Pantín´s Beach so that visitors can perform any bank operations. ABANCA will also include a full program of activities, commercial actions and discounts.
Xunta de Galicia had no doubt in taking part in this event, considering it to be an excellent platform to get to know the region and raise awareness of the values that surround this sport like the value of the natural, a healthy lifestyle, the strength , the effort and overcoming challenges.
“Galicia will take center stage in the world surf field in this eleven days” claims Marcos Rodríguez, representative of Club Praia Pantín.
ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro has established itself as a reference event and therefore, companies as ABANCA, Estrella Galicia, Cabreiroá y Hospital Quirón, among others, have supported the surf event.
“Due to the relevance of its historic enclave for the sport, along with the wind and wave conditions that offer high quality of success, finally the chosen location for developing the event is Playa de Pantín” adds Marcos Rodriguez.
More than just a sport
ABANCA Galicia Classic Surf Pro is more than a sports event. Club Praia de Pantín has hardly worked on designing a complementary schedule of activities related with the cultural and environmental field.
Surrounding the event, the ECO-LOGIC. An initiative that is built with the compromise of turning the event into a sustainable one, taking care of the environment and facilitates for an excellent practice of the sport.
For that reason, the ECO-LOGIC sustains in three main pillars: firstly, the entrepreneurs and innovators that develop environmental- respectful surf products through all the production cycle and their life-lasting.
Secondly, the affection for Pantín´s Beach. This concern is embodied in a wide volunteer program, as a part of the european proyect, LEWO, from Xunta de Galicia for the volunteer training in areas of Red Natura 2000.
The third pillar is the local community and visitors (as well, the little ones). The organization provides a wide program of educational, cultural and sports activities were nature is very present.
Contest Calendar
Regarding the sports calendar, we should highlight the trials dispute that will take place on August 26th and where wildcards to participate in the competition will be assigned.
Between August 28th and August 31st the Longboard contest will take place.
From September 1st until the 4th, Women contest will be disputed. Meanwhile, Men athletes will start on september 2nd and finish on the 7th.
